Finding the Right Wedding Photographer for Your Special Day

Planning your big day is a big deal and finding the right person to document your big day should also be a big deal. Getting married is an event that every bride and groom will cherish for the rest of his or her life. There is a lot of preparation and details that go into planning a wedding including finding the right photographer to capture your day. The memories you take with you from your wedding day can be looked at over and over again through the photographs. As a Vancouver wedding photographer from Purple Rose Photography I have comprised some helpful tips to follow while looking for a wedding photographer or even a portrait photographer.

First, make sure the photographer is willing to meet you at no charge. The consultation is a great way to see if you connect with your photographer. You want to ensure you feel relaxed with your photographer, as the last thing you want is to be uncomfortable having your pictures taken on your big day.

Second, ask your wedding photographer to see their portfolio, this will show you their level of experience and also the main style they use while photographing weddings. Every photographer has their own unique style and you want to make sure you love the photographs they take. You should find out if the wedding photographer is open to suggestion and is willing to take the photographs that you request.

Third, many Vancouver wedding photographers are switching to digital cameras; you should ask your wedding photographer if they will be shooting with film or digital. If film, will you get to keep the negatives? If digital will you get a CD or DVD with digital negatives? A large benefit to having a wedding photographer that will shoot digital is that not only can the photographer easily make touch ups to the photographs, they can also add a variety of effects.

Fourth, do not consider price to be a judgement of the photographer. Just because the photographer is expensive doesn’t necessarily mean that their work is superior to the rest or vice-versa; this is where viewing the photographers portfolio can determine the quality.

As you can see on my site Purple Rose Photography not only do I display some of my work I also have an FAQ, which can help answer some questions even before meeting me. Feel free to use these questions as well, when searching for a wedding photographer. I hope you can use these tips as a foundation to finding the right Vancouver wedding photographer. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to send me an email or call. Happy planning!

Take Professional Photos For Your Scrapbooking - Candid Shots

Photos are the essence of what scrapbooking is all about. If it wasn't for those old boxes of photographs hiding in the cupboard, this craft would never have grown into what it is today.

As scrapbookers we are always on the hunt for the latest scrapbooking technique, idea or inspiration. Do you ever stop to learn how to take better photos to use in your albums? This series of articles is designed to do just that. Teach you how to capture those candid moments, record those precious memories and enjoy the feelings of confidence when you know you are capable of taking the most amazing photographs.

Lets explore 'Candid Photographs'.

Candid photographs of children can be the most gorgeous ones of all. These are the memories of moments which need recording. How do you capture those candid shots without it looking like just another snapshot?

1. Have you camera ready. This may sound basic, but so important. Keep you camera ready to go. If you have to search for new batteries or can't find it when you are heading out to the park, you aren't going to get those great photos. When you are out you need to keep it at the ready as well. Those candid moments just happen and you have to be ready to shoot at a moments notice.

2. Be thinking of photos. As you are playing at the park or wherever you are, keep looking and thinking what would make a great photo. Look at the action, children, backgrounds and work out a great shot in your mind. Then when it all comes together grab your camera and shoot.

3. Capture unusual poses. Think of photographing people from behind, above or below. Someone lying down or bending over.

4. Create a natural pose. Say something funny just as you are about to shoot to capture those laughs. Or call out to someone who is facing the other way. As they turn to look at you be ready to capture the natural face expression.

5. Use your zoom. When people know there is a camera pointed at them it is very hard to act natural. So find a quiet place where you won't be noticed and zoom in on the action. The best candid photos are taken when the subjects don't realize it.

6. Give your subjects an activity to do. Try giving children a bottle of bubbles and capture them intent with concentration as they blow. Once people are immersed in an activity they will often forget all about you and your camera.

7. Take photos without thought. Don't get caught up in getting everything just right. Sometimes you need to just take the photo or else you will miss the action. This is the beauty of digital cameras. If you take 20 photos to get one 'wow' photo, no one need ever know!

The next article will look at Outdoor photography.

Choosing a Web Based Photo Storage Service

As digital cameras replace film, more and more users are turning to web based photo storage services to manage their photo archives. There are a dizzying array of sites, all offering different services at different prices. Choosing a storage service can be a confusing process, particularly when you are choosing a company to entrust with your precious family photos. Here are some things to look for when you're choosing a photo storage service.

First, take a look at the interface. How easy or difficult is it to upload photos to the site? Most of the major photo storage sites offer the ability to download software that will let you upload batches of photos, but some sites still rely on web interfaces that are slower and more clumsy.

Once you've checked out the interface, investigate the pricing structure of the site. Compare costs carefully using a standard print size, such as 4x6 for comparison. The difference in printing costs can vary wildly from one site to another, from as little as 12 cents at one site to as much as 29 cents at another. Don't forget to consider traditional sources of photo-processing like drug stores. These companies are making it easier to place photo orders over the web by offering storage and customization of photos and frequently cost less than dedicated photo storage services.

Continue to investigate pricing. For example, is there a cap on the number of photos you can upload for free? How much does it cost beyond that? Compare priced for specialty items like calendars, greeting cards and enlargements. Finally, compare shipping and handling costs, which are often a hidden source of profit for many companies.

Of less importance than cost, but still an important consideration, is whether a photo storage service allows you to create custom items. Almost all sites allow the user to customize items like greeting cards, but some offer a wider array of products than others. If this is important to you, compare the number of products offered and the interface used to create custom items.

Finally, be sure you completely understand how long a photo storage service will host your photos. Some have a set time limit, tied to the last time a user logged in to their system. Never completely rely on an online photo storage system to store your photos. Always keep a backup copy of your photos on external media in case of problems.
