This series of articles is designed to do just that. Teach you how to capture those candid moments, record those precious memories and enjoy the feelings of confidence when you know you are capable of taking the most amazing photographs.
Lets explore 'Candid Photographs'.
Candid photographs of children can be the most gorgeous ones of all. These are the memories of moments which need recording. How do you capture those candid shots without it looking like just another snapshot?
1. Have you camera ready. This may sound basic, but so important. Keep you camera ready to go. If you have to search for new batteries or can't find it when you are heading out to the park, you aren't going to get those great photos. When you are out you need to keep it at the ready as well. Those candid moments just happen and you have to be ready to shoot at a moments notice.
2. Be thinking of photos. As you are playing at the park or wherever you are, keep looking and thinking what would make a great photo. Look at the action, children, backgrounds and work out a great shot in your mind. Then when it all comes together grab your camera and shoot.
3. Capture unusual poses. Think of photographing people from behind, above or below. Someone lying down or bending over.
4. Create a natural pose. Say something funny just as you are about to shoot to capture those laughs. Or call out to someone who is facing the other way. As they turn to look at you be ready to capture the natural face expression.
5. Use your zoom. When people know there is a camera pointed at them it is very hard to act natural. So find a quiet place where you won't be noticed and zoom in on the action. The best candid photos are taken when the subjects don't realize it.
6. Give your subjects an activity to do. Try giving children a bottle of bubbles and capture them intent with concentration as they blow. Once people are immersed in an activity they will often forget all about you and your camera.
7. Take photos without thought. Don't get caught up in getting everything just right. Sometimes you need to just take the photo or else you will miss the action. This is the beauty of digital cameras. If you take 20 photos to get one 'wow' photo, no one need ever know!
