Ingredients That Should Be Understood In Skin Whitening Product

The compound that creates the skin's color is called melanin. Melanin is naturally present in humans. The production of melanin increases due to exposure to UV rays from the sun. This increasing melanin provides natural protection from skin cancer. However, the more melanin means the darker your skin. This is why most people needs skin whitening cream before exposed by UV rays.

Before you buy skin whitening product, you must aware about its ingredients. You must do this because so many skin whitening products sold in the market and contain harmful ingredients. From now you must know what should and should not exist in a skin whitening cream.

Bad Ingredients
1. Hydroquinone
It can increase cancer risk and causes serious adverse reactions including the appearance of permanent dark bumps. This is why this ingredient should be
avoided in a skin whitening. It has been shown to cause leukemia in mice and other animals.
2. Mercury
Mercury is an extremely toxic substance that builds up in the body's organs. Its presence in skin
whitening is extremely harmful.
3. Arbutin
It contains the chemical glucosylated hydroquinone. Like many other skin whitening products, no studies have been made regarding its toxicity, but there are fears that it can have the same links with cancer found in hydroquinone.
4. Kojic acid
It is a product of the fermentation process for the malting process that is used in making Japanese sake. Testing on mice has proven that there is evidence
on the carcinogenicity of this ingredient. However, actually there is no studies have been made yet on humans. Another research reported that its presence in skin whitening product is very effective for inhibiting melanin production but very unstable when used in cosmetics products.
5. Tretinoin
Tretinoin is made of Vitamin A. It has been recorded to cause thinning and dryness of the skin. Sensitive skin types can also experience redness, scaling,
itching, and burning. Tretinoin should not exist in skin whitening creams.
6. Benzene
Benzene can cause cancer and kidney failure. Also your skin can suffer from severe damages which can not be repaired.
7. Dioxane, parabens and alcohols
These ingredients can make your skin turn for the worse and a lot of them are found in skin whitening creams nowadays.

Good Ingredients
1. Nut-grass root extracts
The botanical name for this medicinal plant is Cyperus rotundus. It is native to areas of Europe, Africa and Asia. It was used traditionally to treat bruises
and other wounds. In recent years, scientists learned that it reduced irritation on the skin and a new cream was developed for that purpose. As often
happens, they learned by accident that it was an effective skin whitener as well. It can also safely inhibit melanin production by over 40% without causing
irritation with a concentration only of 0.5%.
2. Functional keratin
It can increase the production of new skin-cells and have an anti-aging affect. Its presence increases the work of a skin whitening product.
This is a proprietary formulation that contains coenzyme Q10 and natural vitamin E in an emulsion that is small enough. This ingredient molecularly
penetrates the skin's layers to prevent and repair damage done by UV radiation.
4. Maracuja passion fruit extract
It softens, balances sebum production, good for dry, oily and combination complexions.
5. Grape-seed oil
It is an effectively moisturizer that creates and invisible film that prevents dirt and grime from entering the pores.
6. Vitamin C
Vitamin C is an antioxidant that has been found to have positive effects in reducing melanin production in concentrations higher than 5%. Thus it is good for
skin whitening. It is believed to be one of the safest whitening products in the market.
7. Cynergy TK, avocado extract, manuka honey, jojoba oil, and phytessence wakame
They are very helpful to improve your skin texture by reducing free radicals, stimulating the growth of collagen and elastin, and also by protecting it from
external harsh elements like UV ray and pollutants. Thus these ingredients are very good if present in skin whitening products.
8. Alpha Hydroxic Acid (AHA)
AHA is safe to use under 10% concentration. However, concentrations higher than 10% are only to be used by dermatologists and trained cosmetologists. So you must be more careful if using skin whitening product with AHA concentration higher than 10%.
